St Ethelreda's and Stationers Hall Wedding Photography

" Dear David, thank you so much for the photo's. They are amazing. We've been looking at the gallery over the weekend with friends and family. We are so pleased with them. You have captured the whole day beautifully and got every detail of the day. We can't thank you enough. The photo's are everything I imagined they would be and more" Louise & James
My last wedding of the year took me to the stunning St Ethelreda's Church and Stationers Hall in the city of London. St Etherlreda's is the oldest catholic church in England and it's an incredible place, nestled right in the heart of the city you feel cocooned from the hustle and bustle outside. When the church was first built over 800 years ago, little regard was given to how wedding photographers in the 21st Century would cope with the low light levels (particularly on a very damp day in mid December). However, what the church lacks in light it makes up for in ambiance and atmosphere.
My day started in North London, meeting up with Louise at her parents house. The house was busy with wedding preparations but everyone was relaxed and enjoying the occasion.

I met up with the groom James at St Ethelreda's - by this stage the weather has turned rather damp but this did nothing to subdue family and friends (close to 200 of them) who filled the church to the rafters and enjoyed an emotional service and some stunning singing from one of the church choristers.

This was very much a London wedding and to maintain this theme Louise and James arranged for a Routemaster bus to transport guests to the wedding reception at the stunning Stationers Hall.
Stationers Hall is the perfect City of London wedding venue. It is one of Londons last remaining livery halls and dates back to the 17th Century. Louise and James' wedding reception took place in the stunning Main Hall and afterwards guests were treated to come traditional Irish music before the evening celebrations kicked off in style back in the Main Hall.

It was wonderful to return to St Stephens Church in Hampstead to capture the wedding of Ellie and Sam a couple of months ago. I started the day meeting up with Ellie at the York & Albany opposite Regents Park. She had reserved a lovely room which offered enough space for makeup, hair , bridesmaid, parents ... oh, and the photographer ! Working very candidly I was able to capture some lovely moments during the bridal preparations.

It was then a quick dash in an uber up to St Stephens Church to meet up with Sam and the wedding party ahead of the emotional ceremony. To say the weather was inclement would have been an understatement, however it did nothing to dampen the spirits of the happy couple and guests. Sam is a toy designer (yes I know, very cool) and his work and that of his best man was on display with a very original cake topper depicting the happy couple. When you get the chance take a look at Sam's website to get a glimpse into his creative world.

Despite most of my work being candid and unposed, I often suggest to couples that they spend a little time together alone just to take the day in and reflect on the occasion. This 'couple time' is perfect for a few images of the couple together and despite the awful weather (my cameras are weather sealed unlike me) I was able to pop outside, grab some shelter in the cloisters of the church and capture some lovely, relaxed images of the happy couple.

After the wedding breakfast there were three emotional speeches from Ellie's father, Sam and his best man Nick. It was then full steam ahead into the party, preceded by a re-scheduled confetti arch as by this stage the rain had eased. An extremely well choreographed first dance rounded the coverage off. Congratulations to Ellie and Sam for organising a wonderful wedding day and for being such great sports when it came to embracing the awful weather !
