A Wonderful and Unique Wedding Venue - St Stephens Church Hampstead
If you are looking for a wedding venue that gives you the flexibility of having a civil ceremony but the grandeur and ambiance of a church setting, then look no further than St Stephens Church located in Hampstead. The image above was take at Ellie and Sam's wonderful wedding at St Stephens - it's a spectacular location and a 'one stop shop' for your wedding celebrations.
Situated on a landmark site, at the meeting of Pond Street and Rosslyn Hill in Hampstead, stands St Stephen’s, one of the last surviving works of the Victorian architect Samuel Sanders Teulon. A Grade I listed building and national historic monument, St Stephen’s was built 1869–1873, being made redundant in 1977 and thereafter remaining empty until 2002 when it was deconsecrated and given into the care of St Stephen’s Restoration and Preservation Trust on a 99 year lease from the London Diocesan Fund. With the building having survived years of dereliction, damage and occupation by squatters, the mission of the Trust is to restore and protect the fabric and grounds of St Stephen’s, as befitting a Grade I Listed Building and to open its doors to the public as a local community asset for educational, arts and social purposes.
Back in the summer I had the pleasure of photographing Kathryn and Luke's wonderfully intimate wedding in the stunning Swiss Gardens in Shuttleworth, Bedfordshire.
The Swiss Garden at Shuttleworth was created between 1824 and 1832. It was the project of a wealthy young gentleman, the 3rd Baron of Old Warden Lord Ongley, whose family had bought the estate in the 1690s. At the highest point and in the centre of the garden is the Swiss Cottage. Used as a teahouse, it has a cleverly hidden lower ground floor where the food could be prepared. Today the Swiss Cottage is a stunning venue for intimate wedding ceremonies, only a handful of guests can sit inside, those without a seat can watch proceedings through the open windows (this includes the photographer !!).
Kathryn and Luke particularly loved my style of candid, documentary wedding photography. There were no formal shots at all, it was wonderful to just go about my business as if I were part of the small wedding party, capturing those special moments in an unobtrusive fashion. Due to the intimate location I used my fuji mirrorless cameras and fast, prime lenses to capture the wedding. They were perfect for this occasion, exceptionally quiet and very light to carry (it was a hot day !!)
Perhaps you are considering a Swiss Garden Wedding and you're looking for an unobtrusive, candid style for your wedding photography. If so, why not drop me a line - I'd love to hear your plans. In the meantime, here's a selection of my favourite images from the day.
I LOVE photographing Woburn Weddings !
Woburn Sculpture Gallery is a stunning venue for a wedding and it's somewhere I am fortunate enough to return to on a very frequent basis and I can't wait to return there again in 2019 for some lovely couples who have booked me for their weddings. Whatever your wedding plans, Woburn Sculpture Gallery always delivers - amazing gardens and internal space and architecture coupled with superb customer service provided by the team there.
It was so good to return to Woburn Sculpture Gallery for Sam and Scott's wonderful wedding in May. We have been blessed with some amazing weather this year and it was no different for Sam and Scott as they were married in a lovely intimate ceremony in Maulden. It was then off to Woburn to enjoy a sun-kissed drinks reception. As a documentary wedding photographer based in Bedfordshire, the majority of my wedding photography is unposed and candid but it's always lovely to have some couple time so we can explore the grounds and I can capture the happy couple together. I always make sure that this time doesn't interfere with the natural flow of the wedding day and after a little time together Sam and Scott were able to enjoy the company of their family and friends and the wonderful wedding breakfast in the Sculpture Gallery. After the speeches it was time to party, with guests enjoying the grounds as the sun set on a wonderful day.
Perhaps you are considering a Woburn Sculpture Gallery wedding ? I'd love to hear from you and chat about your plans.
Here's just a small selection of images from the day, hope you enjoy looking over them.
What a great day I had shooting Courtney and Jack's wonderful wedding at the stunning Lapstone Barn in September. Lapstone Barn is a brand new, exclusive use venue set in the stunning Cotswold countryside. The 18th Century Cotswold stone barn was the perfect venue for our fun-loving couple to share their special day with family and friends.
Courtney and Jack booked me because they loved my unobtrusive, documentary style wedding coverage - and this worked so well for them at the Lapstone Barn as I was able to work discreetly capturing Courtney's bridal prep all the way through to the spectacular first dance and partying into the wee small hours.
This was truly a stylish affair with Jack and the groomsmen arriving in limited edition Bentleys. Courtney looked absolutely spectacular as she walked down the aisle with her father. The barn was dressed to impress also, with stunning floral displays and styling courtesy of the team at Styletopia.
It was tough narrowing down a selection of favourites to include in the blog, but hopefully the images below will give you a great feel for the wonderful day Courtney and Jack enjoyed.

What do you get if you mix a couple who are now officially 'Mr & Mrs Marriage' with the beautiful Essex countryside, stunning summer weather, an ancient church, a wonderful family home, THE BBQ OF ALL BBQ's , archery, a classic E Type Jag and a stunning marquee accommodating over 120 very happy guests ? That's right, you get a sensational wedding day.... and I was lucky enough to be invited along to document Faye and Mikes spectacular countryside, marquee wedding in my candid, unobtrusive, documentary style.
I think the images speak for themselves, you won't be left wondering if everyone connected to this wedding had a good time or not ! Mike is a filmmaker, director and writer and it was important to both Mike and Faye that I capture the day in a very unobtrusive and candid manner. Other than a small amount of time with the couple later in the day, I was able to fully immerse myself into the occasion. Capturing the emotional ceremony, the wonderful drinks reception, speeches and finally dancing on what was a never to be forgotten experience for the bride and groom.
So what did you think of Faye and Mike's Marquee Wedding ?
Perhaps you are planning a marquee wedding of your own ?
